Export & self-host an AI-built app (2026)

B BerryBell Team ·

Short answer: to avoid lock-in, use an AI app builder that gives you the full source code and lets you export to GitHub. BerryBell provides complete, typed full-stack code you can edit in-browser, and export via GitHub sync or a ZIP download on a paid plan.

Check for real code ownership

Before you commit, confirm the tool offers:

  • Full source export (front end and back end), not just a preview;
  • a standard stack you can run yourself;
  • GitHub export or a downloadable project.

BerryBell, Lovable, Bolt, Replit and v0 all give you real code; some managed platforms keep more of the stack on their side — Bubble, Glide and Softr, for example, don’t export app code.

Your project is yours: edit it in the built-in editor on any plan, and on a paid plan connect a GitHub repository or download the source as a ZIP.

Before you self-host

The export is a standard TanStack Start codebase (React, Vite, Tailwind) that a developer can read and work on outside BerryBell. Parts that run through BerryBell’s platform — connectors go through its token broker, for example — don’t come with it, so check what your app still relies on (its database, sign-in and connector credentials) and plan how you will replace anything BerryBell was running for you.
